The Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has called for the immediate removal of the Director-General of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), accusing the council of negligence in handling controversial material contained in a teacher’s manual currently in use in schools.

Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show, the legislator expressed concern that NaCCA failed to properly scrutinise the content before it was approved, printed, and distributed to schools across the country.

According to Rev. Fordjour, the situation reflects a serious lapse in oversight, arguing that the council had ample opportunity to identify and address the problematic sections before the materials reached classrooms.

“If they had genuinely done their work and were not sleeping on the job, the review should have taken place before the books were printed,” he said.

“You don’t wait until the wrong content has been printed, distributed, enforced, and even taught in classrooms for weeks before attempting to correct it.”

The Assin South MP criticised what he described as NaCCA’s delayed and reactive response, including the release of a revised version of the manual, which he said does not sufficiently address the core issues.

“As we speak, the so-called revised edition that was edited just yesterday still contains definitions of sex, sexuality, and sexual orientation exactly as they appeared in the original manual,” he stated.

Rev. Fordjour described the leadership of NaCCA as incompetent, warning that their failure to act decisively has left students exposed to content he believes is inappropriate and harmful.

“These books are still sitting in classrooms across the country, and teachers are being compelled to teach what I consider poisonous material to our children,” he cautioned.

He urged the Ministry of Education and other relevant authorities to intervene swiftly, stressing that safeguarding students must take priority over institutional convenience.

The MP concluded by insisting that accountability is necessary to prevent similar occurrences in the future, adding that decisive action against NaCCA’s leadership would send a strong signal about the importance of curriculum integrity and child protection.
