Former Minister for Defence, Dominic Nitiwul, has expressed strong confidence that Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will secure victory in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming presidential primaries.

Speaking during an interview on Joy News’ PM Express, Mr Nitiwul stated that his confidence in Dr Bawumia’s chances is grounded in historical trends within the party and the Vice President’s standing among party members.

“I am convinced that in this contest, Dr Bawumia will win,” he said, explaining that similar confidence had surrounded President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during his multiple attempts to lead the party.

Drawing parallels with the past, Mr Nitiwul recalled how President Akufo-Addo emerged victorious in successive internal elections after earlier losses.

“Just as Akufo-Addo won the primaries in 2010 and again in 2014, Bawumia is also on a clear path to victory,” he noted.

The former Defence Minister was careful to clarify that his comments were not intended to undermine other individuals contesting the race. He acknowledged the contributions and strengths of the other aspirants.

“This is not to diminish the credibility of any other candidate, whether it is Kennedy Agyapong, Bryan Acheampong, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, or Kwabena Agyapong,” he said.

Mr Nitiwul argued that Dr Bawumia’s track record in public office gives him a significant edge, describing him as competent and free from corruption allegations.

“He has proven his competence over the years, and there is nothing left to be uncovered about him,” he stated. “His public record speaks for itself.”

According to Mr Nitiwul, repeated criticisms from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have lost their effect, as Ghanaians have already formed their opinions about the Vice President.

“The opposition has said everything they possibly can,” he added. “The Ghanaian people have already assessed Dr Bawumia for themselves.”

He further maintained that the Vice President’s policy direction and leadership vision have resonated with both party supporters and the broader electorate.

“Dr Bawumia has clearly outlined his vision for the country, and Ghanaians have bought into it,” Mr Nitiwul said.

He concluded by expressing optimism that Dr Bawumia’s candidacy would unite the party and position the NPP strongly ahead of future national elections.
