The Bono Regional Police Command has achieved a significant breakthrough in its fight against armed robbery, arresting eight individuals suspected of belonging to organized robbery syndicates.

Five of the suspects have already been brought before the courts following weeks of targeted, intelligence-driven operations across the region.

The arrests, announced on Monday, December 8, 2025, were part of an effort to dismantle criminal gangs responsible for a series of robberies and other illegal activities in Bono and parts of the Ahafo Region.

The individuals apprehended include Johnson Amponsah Kwame Diawuo (47), Shadrach Owusu (25), Kwafo Samuel (30), Latif Mustapha (28), Mosby Owusu (20), Kofi Iddrisa (45), Kwabena Agon Azubilla Akalotey (18), and Baba Kumi Foster (35). Each was arrested at different locations as police operations intensified in key areas known for criminal activity.

One pivotal breakthrough came after an attempted robbery on the Berekum–Drobo Road on November 18 was foiled by a prompt police patrol. Investigations traced the plot to a five-member gang led by ex-convict Johnson Amponsah Kwame Diawuo.

Two of the gang members, Kwafo Samuel and Shadrach Owusu, confessed and identified Amponsah as the mastermind behind several attacks in the Nkaseim area.

Police subsequently apprehended Amponsah at his hideout in Nyamennae, recovering Indian hemp, machetes, and motorcycle helmets, which have been secured as evidence.

In a separate operation targeting another gang in Berekum, police arrested Latif Mustapha, also known as “Star Boy,” and Mosby Owusu in Domfete.

Mustapha attempted to evade capture by hiding in his ceiling but was ultimately detained. A search of Mustapha’s room revealed military camouflage, a toy Glock pistol, live ammunition, a taser, knives, military boots, laptops, talismans, and laced toffees—items believed to be linked to criminal operations.

Mosby Owusu was found in possession of a Parabellum Model R-9 pistol with two live rounds, allegedly sold to him by Mustapha for GH¢9,000.

Police also arrested Kofi Iddrisa and Baba Kumi Foster at Ewiakrom for allegedly receiving stolen motorcycles and tricycles smuggled into Côte d’Ivoire. Authorities recovered three motorcycles and a tricycle during the arrests.

On December 2, Amponsah, Owusu, and Samuel were arraigned at the Fiapre Circuit Court on charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and attempted robbery.

They were remanded by Her Worship Akua Adoma Addae and are expected back in court on December 22.

Mustapha and Mosby appeared before the Sunyani District Court B for possession of firearms and illicit military items and were remanded to reappear on December 15.

Iddrisa and Foster were granted police enquiry bail pending further investigations.

The Bono Regional Police Command emphasized its commitment to eradicating criminal networks and recovering illegal weapons in the region.

Authorities also called on the public to provide credible information to aid ongoing efforts against organized crime.

This latest crackdown underscores the importance of intelligence-led policing and regional cooperation in tackling armed robbery and maintaining public safety in Ghana’s Bono and Ahafo Regions.
