The late Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Hon. Naser Toure Mahama, popularly known as McNaza, was a seasoned politician, businessman, and community figure whose death has sent shockwaves through Ghana’s political landscape.

Hon. Mahama was born on March 17, 1965, and hailed from Nima, a vibrant suburb in Accra within the Greater Accra Region. 

Raised in an environment known for its rich cultural diversity and political awareness, he developed an early interest in leadership and public service.

He received his secondary education at West Africa Senior High School, where he demonstrated strong academic discipline and leadership traits. 

He later proceeded to Central University College, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing in 1987. 

Determined to strengthen his governance and management expertise, he obtained a Diploma in Governance from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). 

His academic journey culminated with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Doshisha University in Japan, an experience that broadened his global perspective on business and public policy.

Before entering active politics, Hon. Mahama built a solid career in the private sector. He served as Managing Director of Aminasei Oil Company in Accra from 1993 to 2011, overseeing major operational growth and business expansion. 

He was also associated with OTA Forex Bureau between 2001 and 2003, among other business ventures. His extensive business background later became a defining feature of his approach to legislation and constituency development.

A committed member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Mahama entered parliamentary politics in 2012 when he contested and won the Ayawaso East seat. 

He officially assumed office on January 7, 2013, and went on to represent the constituency for several terms. 

Known for his grassroots connection and pragmatic approach, he earned the trust of constituents across political lines.

In the 2024 general elections, he was re-elected with an emphatic mandate, securing 22,139 votes, representing 70.85 percent of the total votes cast. 

His closest challenger polled 9,110 votes, accounting for 29.15 percent. The victory reflected his sustained popularity and the confidence voters placed in his leadership.

In Parliament, Hon. Mahama was widely regarded as a lawmaker who blended private-sector experience with legislative responsibilities. 

He consistently advocated policies aimed at economic empowerment, youth employment, and urban development, particularly within the Ayawaso East Constituency.

Hon. Naser Toure Mahama was a devout Muslim, a family man, and a respected figure within both political and religious circles. He is survived by his wife and children.
