According to a report by TV3 Ghana on Monday March 16, 2026, President John Dramani Mahama has made a significant announcement that is set to benefit thousands of Ghanaians seeking employment in the security sector.

The President has directed a major expansion of security services recruitment, doubling the number of personnel to be hired across the country's security agencies.

Following a high-level meeting with the Heads of Security Agencies, the Minister for the Interior, and the Acting Minister for Defence, President Mahama issued a directive to increase recruitment from twenty thousand (20,000) to forty thousand (40,000) men and women.

This expansion will take place over a four-year period, offering thousands of young Ghanaians the opportunity to serve their nation in uniform.

The meeting brought together key figures including the Chief of Staff, the Secretary to the President, the Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs, the National Security Coordinator, the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of Prisons, the Director General of the Fire Service, the Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service, and the Director General of the Narcotics Control Commission.

Beyond the numbers, President Mahama placed strong emphasis on the integrity of the recruitment process. He directed the Heads of all Security Agencies to ensure that transparency and fairness guide every step of the exercise.

This assurance is expected to restore public confidence and guarantee that recruitment is based on merit rather than favoritism.

The announcement has been welcomed by many Ghanaians who see it as a timely intervention in addressing unemployment while also strengthening national security.

With Ghana's security agencies requiring more personnel to effectively protect the country, this directive aligns both the nation's economic and safety priorities.

The official statement was signed and released by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, on Monday, March 16, 2026.
