In a recent Fox News interview, retired U.S. Army General David Petraeus discussed the strategic objectives of ongoing operations aimed at Iran’s missile and drone programs.

Petraeus stressed that the campaign focuses on curbing Tehran’s ability to deploy these weapons, stating, “We want to automatically reduce their ability to launch missiles and drones,” and highlighting efforts to target launch systems, stockpiles, and production networks.

He explained that limiting operational capacity in this area is meant to impose long-term constraints on Iran’s ability to conduct aerial attacks.

The former commander noted that modern military strategy relies heavily on intelligence-driven targeting and coordinated air operations to neutralize threats before they are used.

Disrupting missile and drone infrastructure, he said, is crucial for maintaining regional stability and safeguarding allied forces from sudden strikes.

Petraeus also pointed out that sustained pressure on launch sites and production facilities forces an adversary to divert resources to defense and rebuilding, slowing the restoration of offensive capabilities.

He emphasized the importance of integrating airpower with regional defense networks, explaining that layered missile defense systems and continuous surveillance help detect and intercept threats while offensive operations focus on the sources of these weapons.

The remarks come as tensions in the region remain high, with military planners assessing the effect of these operations on Iran’s strategic assets. Analysts note that long-term disruption of missile and drone networks is central to deterrence strategies.

Petraeus concluded that consistent operations, coordinated intelligence, and allied collaboration are essential to significantly reduce Iran’s ability to launch missiles and drones in the future.
