According to a report by Onua TV on Saturday March 14, 2026, Solomon Owusu, Director of Communications for the United Party, has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has no moral right to criticize former President John Mahama for using his brother’s private jet.

According to Owusu, the criticism from the NPP is inconsistent with their own past actions. He reminded the public that the NPP, while in government, rented a private jet even when the presidential jet was available. “It is ironic for the NPP to accuse Mahama when they have engaged in similar practices,” Owusu said.

Owusu emphasized that the circumstances surrounding Mahama’s use of the jet are different. Reports indicate that the presidential jet was unavailable at the time he required air travel.

In such a situation, Owusu argued, it was reasonable for Mahama to use a private jet for official purposes, rather than delay important engagements.

The United Party official further explained that political criticism should be grounded in fairness and consistency.

“Citizens expect leaders and political parties to act responsibly and avoid double standards. Criticizing Mahama under these circumstances sends the wrong message,” he added.

Owusu called on the NPP to focus on issues affecting the country instead of engaging in personal attacks. He stressed that public discussions should prioritize governance, accountability, and service delivery over partisan point-scoring.

This statement from the United Party comes amid growing public debate over the use of private jets by political figures. While some have raised questions about cost and propriety, supporters of Mahama argue that his actions were justified under the circumstances.

In conclusion, the United Party maintains that the NPP’s criticism lacks moral authority and calls for political discourse to be conducted with fairness, transparency, and respect for the facts.
