Even if I’m Given GH¢2 Million, I Will Not Return to NPP or Vote for Bawumia — Defector Claims

A political defector from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has stirred fresh political debate after firmly declaring that no financial offer would convince him to return to the party or support its flagbearer, Mahamudu Bawumia.

The individual, who is now reportedly aligning with The Base Party, claimed that even an alleged offer as high as GH¢2 million would not change his political stance.

He insisted that his departure from the NPP was based on ideological conviction rather than personal gain or financial inducement.

According to him, his decision reflects a loss of confidence in the current direction of the NPP and its leadership.

He added that his political alignment now fits better with The Base Party, which he described as representing a “new political beginning” and an alternative platform for governance and national development.

His comments have triggered mixed reactions across Ghana’s political and social media space.

Some observers view his statement as a strong expression of political principle and independence, arguing that it highlights genuine ideological shifts within the country’s political landscape.

Others, however, question the credibility of the claims, particularly the reference to large financial inducements, suggesting it may be exaggerated or aimed at drawing public attention.

Political analysts note that defections are not uncommon in Ghana’s multi-party system, especially during periods of internal party tension or ahead of elections.

However, public allegations involving significant monetary offers often intensify scrutiny and raise broader concerns about political financing, loyalty, and influence.

The NPP has not yet responded officially to the remarks. Meanwhile, attention is increasingly turning to The Base Party as it continues to position itself within Ghana’s evolving political environment ahead of future elections.
