Ghana Police Service has arrested two of the country’s most wanted criminal suspects during a routine patrol along the streets of Accra.
The suspects, whose identities are being withheld for investigative purposes, were apprehended near a busy intersection after exhibiting suspicious behavior that drew the attention of law enforcement officers.
According to Superintendent Joseph Mensah, the officer leading the operation, the arrests were a result of sharp vigilance and timely intervention by the patrol team.
“Our officers noticed the individuals acting nervously as they walked along the street. Upon stopping and questioning them, we identified them as high-profile suspects linked to multiple violent crimes,” he said during a press briefing.
During the search, police recovered a toy pistol from the suspects. Authorities believe the replica weapon was likely used to intimidate victims during their alleged criminal activities.
“Although it’s not a real firearm, such items are often used to create fear and facilitate crimes such as robbery. It shows the lengths criminals will go to deceive and terrorize innocent people,” Superintendent Mensah explained.
The suspects are allegedly connected to a series of violent incidents, including the recent murder of a local businessman in Tema.
Police investigations revealed that the two had been evading capture for months by frequently changing their locations and disguising their identities.
The arrests have brought a sense of relief to residents in the area.
“This is reassuring. We’ve been worried about rising criminal activities in our neighborhood, so knowing that these criminals are off the streets gives us hope,” said Ama Boateng, a shopkeeper near the scene.
“Crimes of this nature undermine public confidence and safety. These arrests send a strong message that we are committed to protecting citizens and will not tolerate criminal activities,” Superintendent Mensah emphasized.
