P.K. Sarpong, a writer known for his affiliation with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has alleged that Dr. Callistus Mahama, Executive Secretary to President John Dramani Mahama, has been flown out of the country to receive medical treatment.
In a Facebook post published on Friday, April 24, Mr. Sarpong stated that Dr. Callistus Mahama had taken ill and was subsequently transported abroad for medical attention.
He did not disclose the nature of the illness or the specific country to which the Executive Secretary had been taken.
“I am reliably informed that Dr. Callistus Mahama has been taken ill and has since been flown outside for medical treatment. We wish him a speedy recovery,” Mr. Sarpong wrote.
The writer extended his well wishes to Dr. Callistus Mahama, expressing hope for his swift recovery and return to duty to continue serving the President and the nation.
The post has generated considerable discussion on social media, with several Ghanaians sending goodwill messages to the Executive Secretary.
Others have used the development to renew calls for the government to strengthen the country’s healthcare delivery system.
Some commentators argued that adequate investment in domestic health infrastructure would reduce the need to seek medical care abroad for public officials.
As of press time, the Office of the President had not issued an official statement to confirm or deny the claims made by Mr. Sarpong.
