Speaking in connection with a reported dispute involving Kennedy Agyapong and former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Owusu Bempah threw his support behind the outspoken former MP and took a swipe at leading figures in the NPP.
He argued that former Vice President Dr. Bawumia and other NPP leaders do not have the authority to criticize President John Dramani Mahama, who he said is currently focused on stabilizing and rebuilding the economy.
According to him, the economic difficulties experienced in recent years were largely the result of mismanagement under the NPP government, particularly during periods when Dr. Bawumia served as head of the economic management team.
Owusu Bempah pointed to the sharp depreciation of the Ghana cedi during that period, claiming that the dollar rose significantly against the local currency, which he said placed heavy pressure on businesses and ordinary citizens.
He suggested that this performance undermines any claims of successful economic leadership by the current NPP leadership.
He further maintained that the situation of the economy has improved under renewed policy direction and credited efforts linked to John Dramani Mahama’s economic approach for contributing to stabilization efforts and easing hardship for citizens.
In his remarks, Owusu Bempah did not spare the internal dynamics of the NPP, calling for what he described as urgent restructuring of the party.

He argued that the party needs more competent and forward-thinking leadership if it hopes to regain public confidence.
He also urged former NPP appointees and communicators to refrain from attacking President Mahama, insisting that the focus should instead be on constructive engagement and national development rather than partisan confrontation.
The comments have added fuel to ongoing political debate, especially between supporters of the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as both sides continue to trade blame over Ghana’s economic challenges.
Dr. Bawumia has yet to respond publicly to the latest remarks, and there has been no official reaction from the NPP leadership regarding Owusu Bempah’s statements.
Meanwhile, political observers say such internal criticism highlights growing divisions within the NPP as the party continues to reflect on its past governance record and reposition itself for future elections.
