Wunam Haruna, the 20-year-old son of Ghanaian politician Haruna Iddrisu, has taken on a new role in the country’s football industry after being appointed Chief Executive Officer of Kick Nation, a football and player scouting agency.
The appointment marks a move into sports management for Wunam, who is expected to oversee the agency’s efforts to identify and develop promising footballers across Ghana.
Kick Nation focuses on scouting young talent and providing players with training and opportunities to progress toward professional football. The agency is particularly interested in discovering players who possess ability but lack the exposure or resources needed to attract the attention of professional clubs.
Wunam has said his vision extends beyond personal achievement. He believes football can provide young people with opportunities to build better lives and help families overcome economic challenges.
Under his leadership, Kick Nation is pursuing talent-identification programmes in cities including Tamale, Accra and Kumasi. The initiative targets players from schools, local communities and grassroots clubs, with selected prospects expected to receive development support and potential connections to professional teams in Ghana and abroad.
Wunam has also emphasized the importance of ensuring that financial limitations do not prevent talented players from receiving opportunities.
His appointment has attracted attention partly because of his family background, but he has expressed a desire to establish his own identity through his work in football. His focus, he says, is on creating opportunities for young players rather than relying on his father's political profile.
The move has been viewed by some football observers as an opportunity to bring youthful energy and fresh ideas into Ghana's talent-development system.
If successfully implemented, Kick Nation's scouting and training programmes could provide a pathway for more young footballers to move from grassroots football into the professional game.
