Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily, Apanga stressed that governance is a collective responsibility and that party leaders must be held accountable as a team.
Apanga argued that Dr. Bawumia was a key member of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration, and therefore, narratives trying to isolate him from the party’s perceived mismanagement are misleading.

“Governance was not a solo effort. The President, Vice President, and the entire leadership team worked together. It is impossible to separate one leader from the government’s performance,” he said.
He added that if the NPP hopes to regain public trust, the party must focus on reconnecting with grassroots supporters. According to Apanga, delegates at the local level are the ones who ultimately decide the future of the leadership.

“If the grassroots delegates choose not to give the same leadership another mandate, it is a clear signal that they want change,” he said. He emphasized that shielding Dr. Bawumia from accountability would not help the party rebuild confidence among voters.
However, not everyone shares Apanga’s view. Former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has called on NPP delegates to separate Dr. Bawumia from criticisms regarding the party’s handling of the economy.

Safo argued that the former Vice President’s role in key economic decisions was limited and that it is unfair to hold him solely responsible for challenges that arose under the NPP administration.
“Dr. Bawumia should not be blamed for the country’s economic issues. He remains one of the party’s strongest leaders and a candidate capable of leading NPP forward,” Safo stated.

She encouraged delegates to consider the former Vice President’s leadership qualities and vision for the party rather than linking him directly to perceived failures.
Apanga, however, maintained that accountability is vital for the party’s credibility. He believes that acknowledging the collective responsibility of the NPP leadership will help the party identify mistakes, reconnect with its base, and build stronger policies moving forward.

“When leaders take responsibility together, it fosters trust and shows voters that the party is serious about governance,” he said.
