President John Dramani Mahama of Ghana has been honoured with a prestigious traditional title in Nigeria, being installed as Aare Atayeto Oodua by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi (Ojaja II).

The ceremony took place on Monday, December 15, 2025, at the Ooni’s palace in Osun State. The Yoruba title translates to “A President Who Reorganises the Global Space for Humanity”, recognising Mahama’s commitment to leadership, diplomacy, and African unity.

Already honoured as Aare Atolase of Offa in 2015 by the Offa Kingdom in Kwara State, Mahama has maintained strong ties with Yoruba communities, strengthening cultural and diplomatic relations between Ghana and Nigeria.

During the ceremony, traditional leaders praised Mahama for his dedication to multilateral cooperation, peacebuilding, and regional development.

Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwoye I, a respected Yoruba monarch, described him as a leader “who ensures the nobility of this Kingdom is maintained.”

The Ooni of Ife, on the throne since 2015, is known for promoting Yoruba culture, interfaith dialogue, socio-economic development, and connections with the African diaspora.
