Ghanaian midfielder Francis Abu has taken a major step forward in his recovery journey after returning to gym training this week.

His progress has brought relief to fans of both the Black Stars and Toulouse FC, who have been waiting for updates since his injury last month.

Abu’s setback happened during Ghana’s friendly match against Japan at the Kirin Cup. The game, played at the Toyota Stadium, had been competitive until the midfielder suffered a painful ankle injury while attempting to block a shot early in the second half.

The impact left him unable to continue, and he was replaced shortly after the incident.

Players and team officials were visibly concerned as Abu was stretchered off and rushed to Toyota Memorial Hospital.

The injury sidelined him for the rest of the international window, forcing him to miss Ghana’s following friendly match against South Korea.

For a player whose energy and creativity have made him important to both club and country, the sudden setback was worrying.

After receiving emergency treatment in Japan, Abu spent a week in Tokyo for further medical assessments.

Doctors recommended a detailed rehabilitation programme to help him regain strength and stability in his ankle.

Once he completed the first stage of treatment, he returned to France to continue his recovery with the medical team at Toulouse FC.

Initial expectations suggested that the midfielder might miss the rest of the club season. However, his recent progress has brought new optimism.

His return to gym work, which includes strength routines and controlled movement exercises, shows that he is responding well to therapy.

Sources close to the club say his recovery is ahead of schedule, though no official return date has been announced.

Abu’s quick improvement is also exciting news for Ghanaian football supporters. With the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaching, the Black Stars will need all their key players fit and ready, especially in midfield where competition is tough.

If his recovery continues at this pace, Abu could be in contention for a spot in Ghana’s squad ahead of the global tournament.

Coaches and medical staff are expected to monitor his development closely over the coming weeks. Returning to full training will depend on how well he handles increased physical activity and whether his ankle regains full strength.

For now, the focus is on helping him build stability, balance, and confidence as he moves toward the next phase of rehabilitation.

Despite the challenges, Abu has maintained a positive attitude throughout his recovery. The player is said to be motivated and determined to return stronger. His resilience has inspired many young football fans who follow his career closely.

Toulouse FC supporters are also excited about the news. The club sees him as an important part of their midfield setup, and his absence has been felt in recent matches.

A successful comeback would not only boost their squad depth but also add more creativity and energy to the team as the season progresses.
