As the Kpandai constituency gears up for a highly anticipated by-election, National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate Daniel Nsala Wakpal has expressed strong confidence in his victory.

Speaking to Sompa FM, the former Member of Parliament claimed he will defeat his main rival, New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate Matthew Nyindam, by a margin of more than 5,000 votes.

Wakpal, who previously served as MP for Kpandai, emphasized that his potential win would not hinge on the ruling party being in government.

“People are not going to vote for me because my government is in power. Even on a level playing field, I will win the election convincingly,” he said.

The candidate also underscored his record of development within the constituency, asserting that his achievements in public service, even while in opposition, surpass those of Nyindam.

“I assure the people of Kpandai of development. Even in opposition, the kind of development I have done surpasses that of Matthew Nyindam,” he remarked.

The Kpandai seat became vacant following the annulment of the 2024 parliamentary election results by the High Court.

The court’s decision was based on irregularities identified during the initial vote, prompting a fresh election to determine the rightful representative for the area.

Matthew Nyindam, the former MP, has since filed an appeal and a judicial review at the Supreme Court, both of which remain pending.

Wakpal’s statements reflect his determination to maintain his political foothold in Kpandai and to assure voters that his leadership offers stability and continuity.

Meanwhile, Nyindam and the NPP have maintained their presence in the constituency, campaigning vigorously to retain the seat.

Reports indicate that both parties are deploying significant resources and personnel to mobilize voters, emphasizing development projects and promises to address local concerns.

The by-election comes at a time when Ghana’s political climate is highly charged, with voters increasingly focused on accountability, delivery of public services, and tangible improvements in their communities.

Candidates’ ability to demonstrate their commitment to development, responsiveness to constituents, and integrity is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the election outcome.
