Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, a senior member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has sparked nationwide discussion with his candid remarks about governance, accountability, and the growing influence of President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.

Speaking on a live interview on Asempa FM on 10 December 2025, Agyepong stressed that national interest must take priority over party loyalty, even if it reflects critically on his own political affiliation.

Agyepong highlighted that the return of President Mahama and the revitalization of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) are changing Ghana’s political accountability landscape.

He observed that the Mahama administration is bringing to light issues previously hidden from public scrutiny, including mismanagement, dubious contracts, and financial discrepancies from the NPP era.

“The day Mahama resumed office and strengthened the Public Accounts Committee, I immediately knew he was about to do something serious. Things that were hidden are now coming out, and that should concern anyone who believes in transparency,” Agyepong said.

He emphasized that his loyalty is to Ghana, not just any political party. Speaking the truth, he noted, is not betrayal but a sign of maturity and commitment to good governance. He added, “If I were an ordinary citizen today and had to vote, I would say ‘Mahama toua so’ — Mahama continue.”

While reaffirming his membership in the NPP, Agyepong explained that he cannot ignore effective governance, regardless of political colors.

He praised Mahama’s handling of audits, recovery of misused public funds, and exposure of questionable dealings, saying such transparency deserves recognition.

Agyepong also warned that the NPP faces a period of reflection as the PAC continues to uncover past irregularities.

He noted that Ghanaians are now more informed and increasingly demand accountability, making it impossible for political parties to rely solely on slogans or political propaganda.

“Ghana is bigger than political colors. If Mahama is doing the right thing, we must acknowledge it. If the NPP goes wrong, we must also speak out. That is how a serious nation operates,” he stated.
