Beatrice Owarewaa, also known as Nana Yaa, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called for Ghana’s daily minimum wage to be raised to at least GH¢100.
Speaking on Kessben TV with host KOD, Nana Yaa argued that the current wage system fails to keep pace with the country’s rising cost of living. She highlighted that many workers are struggling to afford basic necessities such as food, transportation, rent, and healthcare.
She suggested that increasing the daily minimum wage to GH¢100 would enhance living standards and restore dignity to Ghana’s workforce.
Nana Yaa emphasized that economic policies should prioritize the welfare of ordinary citizens, particularly low-income earners who are most vulnerable to inflation and economic pressures.
The conversation was part of a wider discussion on economic reforms and social protection measures.
While acknowledging that such changes may present challenges, she stressed that bold action is essential to ensure fair compensation for workers nationwide.
