A revelation from an Electoral Commission (EC) official has sparked nationwide concern over the integrity of Ghana’s elections.

The official reportedly confessed that he was coerced into declaring Ebi Bright of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) the winner of the Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary race.

This alleged admission, made during a confidential meeting with EC Chair Jean Mensa, has raised serious doubts about the impartiality of the electoral process.

The anonymous official claimed that outside pressures forced him to announce Bright as the winner, despite having personal reservations about the vote count.

He reportedly said, “I’m being honest—I was pressured to name Ebi Bright as the winner.” The disclosure has reignited public debate about the EC’s independe

nce, with critics arguing that such interference undermines confidence in Ghana’s democratic institutions.

If these allegations are verified, the ramifications could be severe, potentially eroding trust in the EC and casting suspicion over both current and future elections.

Political activists, civil society groups, and concerned citizens are calling for an urgent, impartial investigation into the Ayawaso West Wuogon results, alongside a broader audit of the commission’s operations.

Social media discussions have amplified public outrage, with users emphasizing that the issue affects the credibility of Ghanaian democracy as a whole.

Political commentators warn that if the NDC and NPP escalate disputes over electoral credibility, the controversy could destabilize the nation’s political climate.

With intense scrutiny on the EC, it faces mounting pressure to act transparently, reaffirm its independence, and reassure citizens of its commitment to fair and impartial elections.

The future of Ghana’s democratic process may depend on the commission’s response in the coming days.
