Broadcaster Captain Smart has launched a scathing attack on the Attorney General and the Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), accusing them of weakening public confidence in the government by applying the law inconsistently.
During a live television broadcast, he claimed that both officials have neglected their crucial duties to combat corruption and ensure justice, a failure that has fueled widespread dissatisfaction across the country.
Captain Smart argued that the public’s anger stems from a system that appears to protect politically powerful individuals while subjecting ordinary citizens to harsh treatment for minor infractions.
In his view, high-profile figures and well-connected persons often escape accountability, with their cases either quietly dismissed or delayed indefinitely, whereas common citizens face strict enforcement of the law.
He further emphasized that this selective application of justice has severely damaged the credibility of Ghana’s legal system.
Citizens, he noted, are increasingly skeptical of institutions established to protect their rights, undermining trust in governance and creating perceptions of inequality before the law.
The broadcaster’s remarks have sparked a nationwide conversation, with civil society groups echoing his call for fairness, accountability, and transparency in the handling of corruption and other legal matters.
Some politicians have conceded that mistakes have been made in the handling of key corruption cases, while others have dismissed his criticism as politically motivated.
In closing, Captain Smart stressed that the failures of the Attorney General and the EOCO Director go beyond individual mismanagement—they have denied justice to citizens and, more importantly, damaged the government’s reputation.
He warned that unless corrective action is taken, public distrust in key state institutions is likely to continue growing, further eroding confidence in governance and accountability in Ghana.
