Two suspected robbers were gunned down evening in Accra after a failed robbery attempt along the busy Spintex Road.

Police say the men, who were on a motorbike, had been targeting pedestrians and motorists for their valuables before officers on patrol intercepted them.

According to eyewitnesses, the suspects had been trailing unsuspecting pedestrians near the Industrial Area stretch, snatching mobile phones and cash.

Alarmed residents quickly alerted a nearby police patrol team, leading to a dramatic chase.

The confrontation ended when officers engaged the armed men, killing two of them on the spot.

A third suspect, however, managed to flee the scene and is currently being pursued.

Police later confirmed that two locally manufactured pistols—one loaded with live ammunition—were recovered, along with a mobile phone believed to belong to one of the victims.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Daniel Owusu, Accra Regional Commander, confirmed the incident.

He explained that the gang had been terrorizing residents in the area for weeks, with several victims reporting attacks.

“Our officers acted swiftly to protect the public. We are determined to clamp down on armed robbery cases in the city,” he said.

The bodies of the slain suspects were taken to the Police Hospital mortuary for identification and further investigations.

Authorities are urging anyone who may have lost items during the robbery spree to report to the Accra Regional Police Command.

Residents who witnessed the chase commended the swift action of the patrol team, saying criminal activities along the road had become too frequent.

“Almost every evening, people complain about being attacked. We are relieved the police are finally cracking down,” one resident said.

Meanwhile, police say operations have been intensified in robbery-prone areas within the capital.

ACP Owusu disclosed that a strategy meeting had been held with divisional commanders to strengthen night patrols and intelligence gathering.

He also appealed to the public to work closely with security agencies.

“We need residents to share information. Criminals live among us, and without community support, it is difficult to flush them out,” he stressed.
