Police in the Eastern Region have arrested a man believed to be the key figure behind a string of robberies that have terrorized residents of Nsawam and Suhum in recent months.

The suspect, identified as 54-year-old Kofi Addae, popularly referred to by locals as “The Blade,” was picked up during a carefully coordinated police operation.

His arrest followed weeks of investigations into violent robberies that left many traders, drivers, and households in fear.

According to police sources, Addae had been on the wanted list for some time after several victims reported being attacked by a masked man armed with a machete.

Despite numerous complaints, he had managed to evade capture, creating the impression that he could outsmart the law.

During the arrest, officers recovered a sharpened machete believed to have been used in several of the attacks.

Police say the discovery proves how dangerous he was and why residents lived in constant fear.

Speaking after the operation, an officer involved in the case explained that it took weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering to finally pin down the suspect.

“He had been hiding between communities and using fear to silence his victims. But with collaboration from residents, we were able to bring him in,” the officer said.

Many locals expressed relief following the arrest. A resident of Suhum market noted,

“We were living in fear, especially traders who returned home late at night. Now we feel some peace knowing he is off the streets.”

The police command in the region has assured the public that Addae will face justice.

He is expected to be arraigned before court once investigations are finalized. Officers also urged communities to continue cooperating with law enforcement in order to curb crime.

Authorities emphasized that while crime cannot be eliminated completely, persistent police work and public support can help ensure criminals are not allowed to operate freely.

They also reminded the public that the suspect, like any other accused person, is entitled to a fair trial under Ghana’s legal system.
