A 23-year-old palm wine tapper, Kwaku Prince, also known as “On God,” has been taken into police custody for allegedly setting fire to the home of his girlfriend and her family in Subri Nkwanta, located in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality.

Relatives reported that the suspect reportedly entered the house searching for 19-year-old Benedicta Kudjo Felicia, a student at Queen Senior High School, despite warnings from the family to stay away.

The family had previously objected to the relationship, citing Felicia’s young age and ongoing schooling.

According to family accounts, Prince allegedly insisted on his intentions and threatened to set the house on fire if the family refused to permit the relationship to continue.

Soon after, the house was reportedly engulfed in flames.

Felicia was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital but succumbed to severe burns. Their mother, 60-year-old Mary Andoh, also died after being taken to the Anhwiaso Community Hospital.

Another family member, 22-year-old Dora Adoma Kudjo, was transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for further treatment but later passed away.

Police have arrested the suspect, who is cooperating with investigators.

The family and local community leaders are calling on authorities to ensure justice is served in the tragic incident.
