Former Finance Minister Adam Amin has urged Ghanaians not to link Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia too closely with the challenges of former President Nana Akufo-Addo’s government.

He believes the former Vice President deserves the opportunity to present his own vision as the country looks toward the 2028 elections.

Speaking at a community meeting in Tamale, Mr. Amin admitted that many citizens were frustrated by the high cost of living, joblessness, and the pressure on the cedi. But he argued that these problems should not define Dr. Bawumia’s leadership potential.

“Ghanaians have every right to be upset, but we should not punish one man for the mistakes of another. Dr. Bawumia has his own style and his own solutions,” Amin said.

The former minister highlighted Bawumia’s work in advancing Ghana’s digital economy. He credited him with pushing for the Ghana Card, expanding mobile money systems, and promoting digital services across government offices.

According to Amin, these achievements show that the former Vice President has the vision to modernise Ghana.

“The progress we see in technology and service delivery today did not happen by accident. Dr. Bawumia was the driving force, and his record proves he can deliver more when given full responsibility,” he explained.

Mr. Amin further argued that global crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic and rising fuel prices worldwide, made Ghana’s economic situation worse.

He said the NPP had learned from the experience and would introduce stronger policies under Bawumia’s leadership to protect citizens from future shocks.

However, critics are not convinced. The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) insists that Bawumia cannot distance himself from the government’s poor economic record.

According to NDC spokesperson Felix Ofosu Kwakye, the former Vice President was central to the administration’s financial decisions.

“Dr. Bawumia was not an observer. He chaired the Economic Management Team, and Ghanaians have felt the impact of those decisions,” Kwakye argued.

Despite the criticism, Adam Amin expressed hope that voters would weigh the Vice President’s achievements carefully before making a decision in 2028.

“We believe Ghanaians are wise enough to see the difference. Bawumia has prepared for this moment, and with your support, he can build the Ghana we all hope for,” Amin concluded.
