Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has called on President John Dramani Mahama to focus on solving Ghana’s problems rather than making excuses or engaging in political talk.

Speaking at a meeting with New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters in Accra, Dr. Bawumia said Ghanaians are no longer interested in promises but want real solutions to the challenges they face daily.

“Ghanaians don’t want noise. They want results. They want leaders who serve them with truth and honesty,” Bawumia said.

This was his first major public address since losing the 2024 presidential election to John Mahama. He told NPP members that while the defeat was painful, the will of the people must be respected.

According to him, democracy demands acceptance of election outcomes, but that does not mean the opposition should remain silent.

“We accept the decision of the people. But as an opposition, we have a responsibility to speak out when things go wrong. Ghana must always come first,” he stated.

Dr. Bawumia cautioned the Mahama-led government against shifting blame onto the previous administration for current difficulties. He explained that once a government is given the mandate, it must deliver on its promises.

“You asked for the job. Now do it. Create jobs, reduce hardship, fix the economy. Don’t spend the next four years blaming the past. That is not leadership,” he added.

Highlighting the record of the Akufo-Addo government, Dr. Bawumia pointed to progress in education, infrastructure, and especially digitalization.

He said initiatives like the Ghana Card system, mobile money interoperability, and e-government services were evidence that the NPP laid a solid base for the nation.

“We left a foundation. What you build on it is what Ghanaians will judge you by,” he stressed.

His comments come as the new administration faces growing pressure to address unemployment, inflation, and the rising cost of living.

Many citizens are eager to see how Mahama will tackle these challenges.

Dr. Bawumia assured supporters that he remains committed to public service and will continue to champion policies that promote progress and unity.

“We love Ghana. Let us work together to build it—with truth, humility, and action,” he concluded.
