Popular Kumawood actor, Agya Koo, has stirred debate after claiming that Ghana is moving in the wrong direction under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking during a discussion on national issues, the actor, whose real name is Kofi Adu, expressed worry about the country’s current state.
He noted that many citizens feel disappointed because things are not progressing as expected.
“The country has taken a different turn. Instead of moving forward, we are going backwards. This is not what we hoped for,” he said.
Agya Koo argued that the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has a stronger chance of winning the 2028 elections if it fields a bold and committed candidate.
For him, that candidate is Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the former Member of Parliament for Assin Central.
The actor urged NPP delegates to rally behind Agyapong in the party’s upcoming flagbearer elections scheduled for January 2026.
According to him, the outspoken politician is the one who can restore Ghana’s progress.
“So we believe that with Kennedy Agyapong leading the NPP, Ghana can get back on track. Dear delegates, let’s give him the support to win power in 2028,” Agya Koo appealed.
His comments quickly went viral on social media, drawing both support and criticism. Some Ghanaians praised him for boldly speaking his mind, while others accused him of being unfair to President Mahama.
One commenter wrote, “Say you’re crying. Which Ghanaians are you speaking for?” Another added, “If you are using Nana Addo’s governance to campaign, then expect only 28% in 2028.”
Others, however, defended the actor, saying his concerns reflect the frustrations of many ordinary citizens.
Meanwhile, Kennedy Agyapong has already begun what he calls a “unity tour” across the country to bring the NPP family together.
He admitted that the Akufo-Addo government left some supporters hurt and promised to mend divisions before the next election.
