"Let's Lock Them Up and Throw the Key Away" — Kofi Bentil On Culprits

Kofi Bentil, Lawyer and Senior Vice President of IMANI-Africa, made a striking declaration on JoyNews' Newsfile program. Reacting to a recent audit bombshell, he stated plainly: "We need to prosecute all of them, lock them up and throw the key away."

There was no ambiguity in his words, no diplomatic softening, and no room for misinterpretation. He meant exactly what he said.

What makes this statement powerful is its directness. Bentil is not asking for more investigations, more committees, or more public hearings.

He is demanding that those found culpable in the audit findings face criminal prosecution and serve prison time. In a space where public figures often speak carefully to avoid controversy, Bentil chose clarity over comfort.

The implications are significant. Audit reports that produce no arrests, no trials, and no convictions are little more than paperwork. They document wrongdoing without delivering justice.

When people in positions of trust mismanage public resources and walk away without consequence, it normalizes the behavior. Bentil's call is a direct rejection of that pattern and a demand that the legal system function as it was designed to.

If his position were taken seriously and acted upon, it would signal a real turning point. It would mean prosecutors doing their jobs without interference, courts delivering verdicts based on evidence, and convicted individuals actually going to prison.

That is not an extraordinary expectation. It is simply accountability working the way it should in any functioning system.

Bentil's words reflect what many ordinary people feel but rarely hear from those in professional and intellectual circles.

The audit findings exist. The evidence is documented. The law provides the tools. What is missing is the will to use them. His message is simple — stop talking and start prosecuting.
