According to a report by Ghanaweb on Friday, March 6, 2026, the man known as Shariff Abdulai Saani, also called “Cristos,” has finally spoken about why he carried out a long killing spree that took the lives of 23 innocent people in parts of northern Ghana.
Abdulai was sentenced to life in prison with hard labour by the High Court in Wa on March 4, 2026, after he pleaded guilty to all the murder charges against him.
The court heard that he was responsible for 16 murders in Wa, five in Bole and one each in Banda Nkwanta and Bamboi.
The 44‑year‑old accused person only revealed his reason for the killings in a statement reported by Ghanaweb.
His explanation came after he was sentenced and taken away to start serving his life term at Nsawam Medium Security Prison in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
Before his arrest, residents of these towns lived in fear as unexplained deaths continued over several months. Many families lost loved ones in brutal and shocking ways that caused panic and sadness among communities.
The killings had left local residents afraid to move freely at night, and in some areas people imposed their own curfews just to stay safe.
Abdulai was arrested on October 6, 2025, after weeks of intense investigation by the police. The Ghana Police Service said the arrest followed sustained intelligence‑led operations that finally brought him into custody.
When he appeared in court after being charged, he did not deny the killings. His guilty plea helped the judge decide on the life sentence — a punishment that reflects the seriousness of killing so many victims.
The Upper West Regional Police Command has since assured the public that it will continue to do its best to protect citizens and uphold the rule of law. They also encouraged communities to work with security agencies to reduce crime and violence across the country.
