JoyNews has taken to their Facebook page to ask the public a straightforward question: which fuel levies would they advise the Finance and Energy Ministers to suspend?

The question came on the back of the government's announcement to suspend some levies and margins on fuel prices to cushion consumers.

The post generated swift and widespread responses, with Ghanaians from various backgrounds sharing their thoughts openly.

The public reaction was largely one of surprise and frustration. Many citizens admitted they were unaware of just how many separate levies existed within the fuel price structure, and the revelation sparked genuine concern about the cumulative financial burden placed on ordinary consumers.

A significant portion of the public directed their frustration toward levies they considered questionable in principle.

Many felt it was unreasonable for consumers to bear the cost of funding the operational activities of government institutions that are expected to generate their own revenue.

This sentiment reflected a broader distrust of how public funds and sector finances are managed.

The energy sector debt levy attracted particular scrutiny. Beyond questioning its size, many citizens raised pointed questions about accountability, specifically who was responsible for accumulating the debt that consumers are now being asked to repay through their fuel purchases. This reflects a deeper concern about transparency in Ghana's energy sector finances.

Others took a more straightforward position, calling for the suspension of all levies at once, reflecting the level of economic pressure many households are currently experiencing.

Despite the frustration, some citizens welcomed the government's move as a positive step, viewing it as a genuine response to the cost of living challenges facing Ghanaians.

Overall, the discussion revealed that many Ghanaians are demanding greater accountability and structural reform in how fuel prices are built and managed, making this far more than a conversation about fuel alone.
