A resident of Akwatia in the Eastern Region has stirred public debate after boldly declaring his intention to leave the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) if Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong is elected as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer.

Speaking during a community discussion in Akwatia, the supporter revealed that his admiration for Mr. Agyapong goes beyond political party lines.

According to him, Kennedy Agyapong represents honesty, discipline, and courage, qualities he believes Ghana urgently needs in a leader.

“I am a strong NDC supporter, but if Kennedy Agyapong wins the NPP flagbearer race, I will not think twice about joining his camp. He speaks the truth and does not fear anyone, and that is the kind of leader Ghana must have,” he said passionately.

His comments come at a time when the political atmosphere is heating up as the NPP prepares to select its flagbearer ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Kennedy Agyapong, who is the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, has gained nationwide attention for his outspokenness and his promise to fight corruption and create jobs.

In Akwatia, reactions to the man’s statement were mixed. Some residents agreed with him, saying Kennedy Agyapong’s bold leadership style could attract support even from outside the NPP.

Others, however, argued that loyalty to a political party should not be easily swayed by one individual.

A teacher in the town said, “Kennedy Agyapong is a strong personality, and I understand why some people admire him. But politics is about ideas and policies, not just individuals.”

Meanwhile, Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign has been gaining traction across different regions. Reports indicate that he has already secured support from former government officials, members of parliament, and grassroots groups.

His message of discipline and accountability continues to resonate with both the youth and older voters.

Political analysts say the NDC supporter’s declaration in Akwatia is a clear sign of Kennedy Agyapong’s cross-party appeal.

If such sentiments grow stronger, the upcoming NPP primaries could become one of the most decisive moments in Ghana’s political history.
