Abdul Rauf Ibrahim has stirred public discourse by suggesting that Ghanaians owe an apology to former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, whose tenure ended amid widespread dissatisfaction over the country’s economic direction.

During his time in office under Nana Akufo-Addo, Ofori-Atta faced mounting criticism from citizens and political observers who accused him of mismanaging the economy.

However, Ibrahim’s recent comments present a contrasting viewpoint. In a message posted on X, he referenced official data from the Ghana Statistical Service, which indicates that the economy is currently valued at GH₵1.2 trillion and growing at a rate of 5.7 percent.

He argued that these figures paint a more positive picture of the economic framework established during Ofori-Atta’s tenure.

Ibrahim maintained that such performance indicators challenge the widespread belief that the former minister failed in his role.

Instead, he suggested that Ofori-Atta’s policies may have contributed to long-term gains that were not immediately visible at the time.

Describing him as possibly the most effective finance minister Ghana has had, Ibrahim insisted that the criticism directed at him may have been unfair or premature.

He called on the public to reassess their judgments and acknowledge what he sees as the former minister’s contributions to economic growth.

His statement has triggered mixed reactions, with some agreeing that leaders should be evaluated based on measurable outcomes, while others remain skeptical, arguing that economic figures alone may not fully capture the realities experienced by citizens.
