A recent social media post by Fifi Kwetey, General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), has sparked renewed speculation over the possibility of Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings being appointed Minister of Defence by President John Dramani Mahama.
The Facebook post, shared on March 23, 2026, included a recent picture of Kwetey and Zanetor Rawlings smiling together, drawing significant attention from political observers and social media users.
In his caption, Kwetey spoke about patience, timing, and consistency, suggesting that opportunities eventually come together at the right moment.
“Don’t rush your journey. What is meant for you will come together at the right time. Stay patient. Stay consistent. Have a great and peaceful week,” he wrote.
The post has fueled discussions about the possibility of Zanetor Rawlings being considered for the Defence Ministry, particularly since she currently holds no ministerial appointment in the Mahama administration.
Her exclusion from the government’s first batch of ministerial nominations had earlier generated criticism from some analysts who believed she should have been given a role in government.
The Defence Ministry and the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology became vacant following the deaths of Edward Omane Boamah and Murtala Mohammed.
The two ministers were among eight officials who died in a helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, while on an official assignment in the Ashanti Region.
In November 2025, President Mahama had informed Muslim leaders during a meeting at Jubilee House that replacements for the vacant ministerial positions would be announced in 2026. He also advised the public not to pay attention to speculation regarding immediate appointments.
Although there has been no formal confirmation from the Presidency, Kwetey’s social media message has once again intensified public debate over who could eventually be appointed to head the Defence Ministry.
