The Managing News Editor of The Custodian Newspaper, Awudu Mahama, has openly defended Okyere Baafi amid growing calls for the Member of Parliament to resign.

Speaking during a media discussion, Mahama firmly stated that there is no legitimate basis for demanding the lawmaker’s removal from office.

He described the pressure from some sections of the public and political groups as both unfounded and hasty, arguing that such demands ignore the larger realities surrounding governance and public administration.

According to Mahama, democratic systems require that criticisms against elected officials be handled through proper legal and political structures rather than emotional reactions or politically motivated campaigns.

He further explained that resignation should only be considered when there are clear constitutional violations, proven misconduct, or strong evidence of wrongdoing. In the current situation, he insisted that none of these conditions have been met in relation to Hon. Okyere Baafi.

Mahama also praised the MP for his contributions toward the development of his constituency and the nation as a whole.

He argued that these accomplishments should not be overshadowed by public pressure or partisan attacks aimed at damaging his reputation.

In addition, he called for fairness and responsible public discourse, warning that emotional reactions and sensational demands could weaken trust in democratic institutions.

He encouraged citizens, political stakeholders, and the media to focus on constructive dialogue and accountability through the appropriate channels.

According to Mahama, unless credible evidence emerges against the MP, there is no justification for him to resign, and he should be allowed to continue carrying out his duties as an elected representative.
