Eliasu Ear Abdul Rahman has entered the growing political controversy between members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following remarks by Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, who declined a proposed debate with NDC Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi.
Oppong-Nkrumah had earlier stated that he would rather engage Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson in a debate, suggesting that Gyamfi was not at his level for such a political exchange. The comment has since triggered strong reactions across Ghana’s political space.
In an Official Facebook Post on 10 May 2026, Eliasu Ear Abdul Rahman described the minister’s statement as arrogant and politically immature.
He argued that dismissing Gyamfi in such a manner was disrespectful and undermined the principles of fair political engagement.
According to him, Sammy Gyamfi has consistently demonstrated strong communication and debating skills and is fully capable of engaging any member of the NPP, including senior parliamentarians.
He further suggested that Oppong-Nkrumah’s refusal to engage Gyamfi may reflect discomfort rather than confidence in open debate.
Rahman went further to argue that comparisons between Gyamfi and Cassiel Ato Forson were misplaced, insisting that Forson is a highly experienced politician whose standing should not be used to sideline other capable voices within the NDC.
He added that Gyamfi’s growing influence in political communication makes him a central figure in national discourse, and not someone to be dismissed lightly.
The comments have intensified ongoing discussions about tone and respect in Ghana’s political debates, with supporters of Gyamfi praising Rahman’s intervention, while critics insist that political figures should focus on substantive issues rather than personal comparisons.
Rahman concluded by urging Oppong-Nkrumah to exercise greater humility and avoid statements that could be interpreted as belittling political opponents, stressing that maturity and respect remain essential in democratic engagement.
