The Ghana Police Service has arrested ten individuals suspected to be land guards for allegedly providing armed security during a planned traditional leadership installation at Adamrobe in Aburi, located in the Eastern Region.
The suspects are currently in custody at Akuapem South, where they are assisting police investigators with ongoing inquiries into their activities and possible wider criminal connections.
According to preliminary police reports, the arrests were carried out during a coordinated joint security operation.
During the exercise, officers retrieved several weapons, including pump-action shotguns, ammunition, and a taser device. Two vehicles believed to have been used by the suspects were also seized and impounded for further examination.
Authorities disclosed that the suspects were found wearing camouflage uniforms resembling those of the Ghana Immigration Service.
However, police have confirmed that none of the arrested individuals are affiliated with the service. Investigators suspect that the group may be linked to a series of violent incidents, including alleged attacks on farmers and landowners within the area.
The suspects were subsequently paraded in their uniforms for identification and questioning as part of ongoing investigations aimed at uncovering the extent of their operations and possible collaborators.
During interrogation, one of the suspects reportedly admitted that the uniforms were provided to them by an individual they referred to as their leader.
He was quoted as saying, “Our boss gave them to us, Hon Mustapha,” suggesting a possible connection to a person of influence who may have facilitated their activities. This claim is also under investigation by law enforcement authorities.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Dawu Joseph, 33, a farmer; Evans Dakavo, 34, a security man; Kwame Aboagye, 34, a vulcanizer; Christian Atsu, 38, a security officer; Samuel Annan, 29, a security man; Thomas Davidson, 34, a security man; Abusapanyin Owusu Paul, 56, a farmer; Richard Agyemang, 30; Jerry John Kwame; and Samuel Kwame.
Police say investigations are still ongoing to determine the full scope of the group’s activities, their sources of equipment and uniforms, and any additional persons who may be involved in the alleged criminal network. Authorities have assured the public that further updates will be provided as the case progresses.
