The founder and leader of Glorious Word Power Ministries International, Isaac Owusu Bempah, has stirred fresh controversy after boldly claiming that he played a spiritual role in securing victory for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during Ghana’s 2020 general elections.

In a viral TikTok video sighted by GhanaWeb, the outspoken preacher alleged that early election results initially showed the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the lead, creating panic among some of his followers because he had already prophesied an NPP victory before the elections.

According to Rev Owusu Bempah, some of his close associates became deeply worried that Ghanaians would mock and insult him if his prophecy failed to come to pass.

“One of my people called me and said the prophecy I gave that the NPP would win the 2020 election did not appear to be happening because the early results showed otherwise. She was not crying because the NPP was losing, but because she feared people would insult me,” he recounted.

The controversial pastor further disclosed that another associate from Kumasi also contacted him with similar fears during the tense collation period.

He claimed that after receiving those distress calls, he immediately took what he described as “spiritual action,” insisting that his intervention eventually changed the direction of the election results in favour of the NPP.

His remarks have since triggered heated reactions online, with critics accusing him of making reckless and politically sensitive claims, while supporters argue that spiritual leaders have the right to pray for national outcomes.

The comments have once again revived public debate over the influence of prophecies, religion and spiritual declarations in Ghana’s political landscape, especially during election periods.
