Member of Parliament for Abetifi and entrepreneur Bryan Acheampong has honoured four prominent Ghanaian footballers by presenting each of them with two plots of land in recognition of their contribution to the development of grassroots football.

The beneficiaries are former Black Stars captain Dede Ayew, his brother Jordan Ayew, Rahim Ayew and former Ghana international midfielder Mubarak Wakaso.

The gesture is intended to recognise the footballers’ contributions to Ghanaian football and their involvement in efforts to encourage and support the development of young talents at the grassroots level.

All four players have had notable careers representing Ghana at different stages. Dede Ayew has served as captain of the Black Stars and featured in several major international competitions, while Jordan Ayew has established himself as an experienced Ghanaian international with an extensive professional career.

Rahim Ayew has also represented Ghana and pursued a career in football, while Mubarak Wakaso became an important member of the national team during his international career and played professionally in several countries.

Beyond their achievements on the pitch, the four footballers have been associated with efforts to support the next generation of Ghanaian players.

Grassroots football remains an important pathway through which young talents are identified, trained and eventually introduced to professional clubs and national teams.

Acheampong’s decision to give each recipient two plots of land therefore represents a substantial gesture of appreciation for their contribution to the sport.

The presentation also draws attention to the importance of private individuals, former footballers, public officials, clubs and other stakeholders supporting sports development.

While football is hugely popular in Ghana, young players often require financial assistance, mentorship, training opportunities and access to proper facilities to develop their potential.

The experience of established footballers can be particularly valuable to aspiring players because they understand the challenges involved in progressing from local football to professional and international competition.

For Dede, Jordan, Rahim and Wakaso, their years of involvement in football have given them first-hand knowledge of the demands of professional sport.

Their continued engagement with younger players could therefore contribute to the development of future Ghanaian football stars.

The land presentation has also generated interest because it represents recognition beyond conventional awards and honours.

By providing property to the four footballers, Acheampong has attached a tangible benefit to his appreciation of their work.

The gesture further highlights the role that individuals outside Ghana’s traditional football administration can play in supporting the growth of the game.

As Ghana continues to develop young footballers and search for the next generation of national team stars, investment at the grassroots level remains crucial.

Initiatives that provide encouragement, resources and recognition to those involved in developing young talents can help strengthen the foundation of the sport.

The presentation to Dede Ayew, Jordan Ayew, Rahim Ayew and Mubarak Wakaso therefore serves both as an appreciation of their football careers and as recognition of their contribution to the wider development of Ghanaian football.

It also sends a message about the importance of supporting former and current football personalities who continue to influence young players and contribute to the growth of the sport beyond the professional pitch.
