Nana B, the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has condemned what he termed an illegal and politically charged move by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to apprehend Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, the MP representing Assin South.

Speaking at a press briefing held at the lawmaker’s residence, Nana B accused the NIB of acting beyond their legal mandate and breaching the constitution.

He claimed that the officials attempted to carry out the arrest without a valid warrant or notifying the Speaker of Parliament, a requirement for lawful action against a sitting MP.

“This is a blatant violation of parliamentary immunity and proper legal procedure,” Nana B remarked. “We support the rule of law, but politically motivated arrests will not be tolerated. If Mahama targets NPP members unfairly, there will be significant repercussions.”

The MP is accused in connection with two planes allegedly used for drug smuggling and money laundering, an issue that has sparked nationwide discussions and drawn both support and criticism.

Nana B referenced previous examples, including cases involving A Plus and Sports Minister Mustapha Yussif, where authorities respected due process by alerting the Speaker before proceeding.

He stressed that following constitutional procedures is vital to prevent political instability.

Legal practitioners and civil society groups are now urging a transparent and comprehensive investigation into both the attempted arrest and the charges against Reverend Fordjour.

As political tensions mount, calls for calm and adherence to democratic norms have intensified.
