Prominent journalist and activist Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has condemned Parliament for revisiting the issue of renaming Kotoka International Airport, calling the debate “childish, backward, and unbelievable.”

His comments, made on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana, have reignited a lingering national discussion.

The controversy revolves around whether the airport should continue to bear the name of Lt. Gen. Emmanuel Kwasi Kotoka, a key figure in the 1966 coup.

While some MPs argue that a new name would reflect Ghana’s democratic ideals, others insist that Kotoka’s legacy deserves continued recognition.

Frustrated by the parliamentary focus, Pratt questioned why lawmakers would prioritize this issue over pressing economic concerns such as unemployment and the rising cost of living.

“This is unbelievable,” he remarked. “Parliament should be addressing real issues affecting ordinary Ghanaians instead of debates that only divide us.”

The remarks quickly went viral, eliciting mixed reactions online. Many lauded Pratt for holding Parliament accountable, while others insisted that national history and identity remain subjects worthy of discussion.

The debate over the airport’s name has evolved into a symbol of Ghana’s challenge in balancing historical reflection with immediate national needs.

With Pratt’s voice now prominent in the conversation, the issue is likely to remain in the public eye for some time.
