Captain Smart’s Scathing Attack on Akufo-Addo Resurfaces

Outspoken media personality Captain Smart has launched a blistering attack on President Nana Akufo-Addo, comparing him unfavourably to death itself.

In remarks that have gone viral on social media, the broadcaster recalled an incident from Akufo-Addo’s tenure as Attorney General, accusing him of meting out disproportionately harsh punishment over a minor offence.

“When he was Attorney General, one Agyapong took an A4 sheet of paper, and he made them forfeit his three months’ salaries as his punishment,” Captain Smart charged.

The presenter’s comments, shared widely on platforms like Facebook under the handle zzettahubgh, reflect growing frustration among some Ghanaians over what they perceive as excessive rigidity in the president’s enforcement of rules.

By stating that Akufo-Addo is “more wicked than death itself,” Captain Smart employed hyperbolic language typical of Ghana’s confrontational radio culture, where personalities often use stark metaphors to criticise public officials.

Critics of the president have previously pointed to his long legal and political career, suggesting that his background as a human rights lawyer and attorney general should have tempered punitive instincts.

Supporters, however, dismiss such attacks as baseless sensationalism, arguing that the specific case mentioned lacks verifiable details and that enforcing discipline, even over seemingly small infractions, is necessary for good governance.

While Captain Smart’s remarks have energised opposition supporters, they also highlight the intense polarisation of Ghanaian political discourse.

Whether the anecdote about the A4 paper and three months’ salary forfeiture is accurate remains unconfirmed, but its circulation underscores how past actions by leaders can resurface years later to shape public perception. As the 2024 election cycle heats up, such fiery exchanges are likely to multiply.
