Veteran journalist and political commentator Kwesi Pratt has revealed a surprising episode from his past, recounting how he declined an offer of legal representation from former Ghanaian President John Agyekum Kufuor during a high-profile court case.

Speaking candidly about the incident, Pratt explained that the trial was a critical moment in his life, one that carried serious legal and personal consequences.

At the time, concerns were mounting among his associates, many of whom believed he required the strongest legal defense available. It was under these circumstances that Kufuor, then already a prominent lawyer and public figure, offered to personally represent him in court.

Despite the significance of the offer, Pratt chose to turn it down. According to him, the decision was guided not by doubt in Kufuor’s capabilities, but by a firm commitment to his own principles.

He emphasized that accepting such assistance did not align with how he believed the case should be handled, noting that his actions were rooted in personal conviction rather than convenience.

The trial itself attracted considerable public attention, with observers closely following developments. Pratt’s refusal of Kufuor’s support sparked mixed reactions.

While some questioned the wisdom of rejecting help from such an experienced legal mind, others viewed the decision as a demonstration of independence and integrity.

Reflecting on the experience, Pratt indicated that the moment remains significant in shaping his outlook. Beyond the legal implications, he described it as a test of character and responsibility.

His account has since reignited discussions about personal values and decision-making under pressure, highlighting the complexities individuals face when principle and opportunity intersect.
